Research

YAS has been an early adopter and innovator in the broadband revolution, spearheading such early developments as the broadband cable modem, the CableLabs DOCSIS® standard and the, IP based set-top box (RNG). We also have initiated research in advanced technologies, services and applications for broadband industry successfully through the $10 million, state-of-the-art YAS Broadband Knowledge Center (YBKC). This highly successful center included a hands-on learning environment that was focused on more than 50+ broadband applications.

YBKC, funded by YAS Capital Partners to advanced and promote broadband technologies, services, and applications, now is part of the University of New Hampshire’s Broadband Center of Excellence (UNH BCoE).

The goal of UNH BCoE is the same as that of the YKBC: To advance, promote and enable broadband to be deployed ubiquitously to power economic growth and contribute to global societal improvements. The same team that led YKBC is now at UNH BCoE. It is a group of dedicated entrepreneurs, inventors, scientists and business executives who have worked for decades in broadband. Our vision is that broadband technology, products and services will continue to shape society and the world in which we live.

UNH BCoE carries on the heritage of the YKBC as a place for advanced research and cross-industry collaboration designed to realize the positive impact of broadband. The BCoE leverages IP technology for all services and is envisioned as a nexus for advanced broadband research, cross industry collaboration, and public education.

The YAS team has successfully managed research programs with international scope such as DOCSIS®), RNG (set-top box standards), and IEEE 802 LAN/MAN standards with participation from academia, silicon vendors, product developers, as well as system and service providers. Together we have created broadband innovations at companies ranging from small innovative start-ups (e.g., LANcity, Broadband Access Systems, River Delta and others) to leading broadband service providers such as Comcast, Cablevision Systems Corp., Cox Communications and Time Warner Cable, which collectively serve tens of millions of customers.
