Global Standards - In 1996, Rouzbeh Yassini accepted the challenge of overseeing the creation of a cable industry standard for modem technology. With his know-how and guidance and tireless work of many individuals and 100’s of vendors the Data Over Cable Services Interface Specification (DOCSIS) was created thru CableLabs (first global standards in 50 years) and remains the basis for almost all cable modem deployments worldwide. By 2003, the DOCSIS initiative had created a multi-billion dollar Broadband opportunity for cable operators, a $35 modem for the industry (a major price reduction from $18,000 in ‘88), and a new formula for technological innovation. 950+ million cable modems were deployed by 2010.

Start Up - An entrepreneurial team of technologists came up with a novel way to improve documentation workflow using OCR. After developing their initial concept based on innovations in optical scanning & business logic the founders of this startup approached YAS for help with Venture Community. We worked with them to create a viable business plan with presentation materials to provided introductions to a number of VCs. Following successful funding YAS continued to support the company by providing executive consulting until a full management team was in place, at which point the YAS team moved to an advisory role.

Strategic - YAS partners helped a major service provider to develop a five-year strategic plan. YAS came to the project with many years of industry experience and knowledge and quickly assimilated themselves with the internal team to provide key contributions in both technology and business areas. The YAS team was able to review the strategy from an independent perspective, validate the major directions and make suggestions on technology choices and timing resulting in an improved plan and a higher confidence level from the operator’s executive management team.
Development - The YAS team assisted a major MSO in developing first industry specification for a new consumer video display product.
